Saturday, May 5, was my official launch party for The Forest of Fayleen, and a huge success! I had so much fun and spent some time with my family, friends, and even reunited with some people I haven’t seen in a long time.
Last week was extremely long and stressful for me and my mom (who also acts as my manager), between calls to the publisher, working with our printer, and after everything was sorted, I still got my order of 200 books only a couple hours before the party! So to say that I was relieved is an understatement.
And then there was the actual party involved. Three days before the party, we started on getting food ready. A little early, I know, but it takes hours for my dad to get his famous smoked barbeque absolutely perfect. But by the time we got done, boy, was it perfect!! And of course, for barbeque to truly be barbeque, it must be accompanied by potato salad, baked beans, chips, and ice cream. (The ice cream was especially important).
Then it was time for the reading. But before I could do that, I had to acknowledge four very special people in my life. My grandparents. I gave a short speech, and brought them up and gave them their own hard copies, barely containing my tears. Then I read the prologue. I was shaking so badly. I had been in plays, sung with friends for church, played music for church, etc. But I had never read my own work for anyone before. But they loved it, and I was overjoyed with how it went.
The party was an over-all success. And I thank everyone who came, and for the support of those who couldn’t. I couldn’t have done any of this without them.
